Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, other hours as needed. May exceed 40 hours per week.
Location: Topeka Market

Job Summary:
The Mortgage Loan Originator is responsible for originating permanent conventional residential or government insured real estate loans and participates in related business development activities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Solicits residential real estate loans through contacts with realtors, builders, individuals and developers as well as developing referrals from others within the bank including branches
  • Provides service to customers and prospective customers seeking residential real estate loans
  • Interviews applicants to develop information concerning their needs, desires, and earnings to assist in determining whether the loan will be an acceptable risk; obtains pertinent financial and credit data
  • Cross sell other bank services to customers
  • If necessary, assist with obtaining necessary and supporting documentation
  • Presents the loan for approval or denial to the Director of Consumer Lending or loan committee, as necessary
  • Follows current loan underwriting requirements to ensure conformity with terms
  • Keeps informed of trends and developments in the local real estate lending market, as well as the changing rules and regulations pertaining to the residential real estate lending
  • Calls on potential or existing customers as assigned to develop new business or retain existing business
  • Answer questions and resolve problems for customers, real estate loan processors and other members of the staff. Be a team player
  • Assist as required in all real estate loan processing procedures and operations as needed
  • Conduct all actions consistent with quality customer service, friendliness and the overall mission of the bank
  • Achieve and maintain a general knowledge of all aspects of the bank and our services in order to cross sell products and answer questions
  • Conduct all interactions with internal and external customers in accordance with The CoreFirst Way

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Experience
Three years of residential real estate loan origination experience required
Previous origination and real estate processing experience required including, but not limited to, FHLMC underwriting and familiarity with Loan Prospector; Experience with Harland Interlink E3 real estate loan system preferred
Familiarity with underwriting of loans for sale on the secondary market preferred

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field preferred

Work involves extensive personal contact with others and may be of a personal or sensitive nature when working through escalations. Fostering sound relationships with others is necessary. Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some local evening and weekend travel may be needed.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
