JOB SUMMARY

The Community Prevention Youth Coordinator presents evidence-based prevention programing by providing resources and technical assistance, disseminating accurate Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) information, and advocating for effective prevention strategies throughout Shawnee county middle and high schools providing mentoring and leadership for the youth members.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and manages the creation and growth of the PARS youth prevention program and its members in Shawnee county middle and high schools.
  • Facilitates Prevention presentations, workshops and training for School Advisors and youth membership.
  • Provides leadership and motivation to the schools, youth prevention sponsors, and the youth membership.
  • Provides technical assistance and helps in building the capacity of the youth initiative within all PARS prevention programs.
  • Collaborates with community and statewide initiatives, programs, organizations and agencies.
  • Assists in developing prevention curricula as needed.
  • Disseminates current PARS prevention information and tools.
  • Solicits referrals and engagements to help expand the youth prevention program and mission.
  • Continues professional growth through prevention related training, professional reading, and a willingness to continually grow and learn new ideas and strategies.
  • Submits accurate and timely work logs, timesheets, and reports as directed.
  • Performs all additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by a supervisor.

QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in social service with field from an accredited four-year college or university required.
  • Must possess valid Kansas Driver's License and insured transportation.
  • Experience in developing and providing educational presentations and training about substance abuse and prevention to both youth and adults is preferred.
  • Experience working with and motivating youth is preferred.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain statistical and survey data, graphs and other prevention concepts to lay public.
  • Proficient word processing skills required; Expertise with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Access preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for public speaking, training and presentations.
  • Team player with the ability to also work efficiently and independently.
  • Spanish speaking a plus but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Some occasional light lifting (5 – 25 lbs.) may be required.
  • Satisfactory level of dexterity to complete various tasks, i.e., operating a computer keyboard.
  • Some travel, mostly local, is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Professional and time-oriented environment in an office and educational setting.
  • Interaction with PARS staff, school administration and students and the public.
  • Some evenings and weekends are required for agency and school programs, meetings, and events.
